How to file the Social Security Return?
Correct filling of the Income Tax Form (Social Security), will avoid delays in processing it, so before filling out said form it is advisable to read the form carefully and in detail. El Department of Finance, has certified some companies and their programs to electronically file the Individual Form. To begin filing the return, you must click on the logo of the preferred provider and then follow the instructions indicated.
How to file the Social Security Return?
The filing of the Individual Form (Social Security), it must be electronic only.
On the page of Department of Finance, in the section Individuals There is all the information and instructions on filling out the form, the requirements and the suppliers certified and authorized by the Department of Treasury PR, to file the return electronically.

To file the return online, you must use a program or application certified by the Department of the Treasury of Puerto Rico, it is recommended to follow the Instruction Booklet and use the Check Sheet, to avoid mistakes.

How to download Social Security Return?

They are now available for informational purposes, the Income Tax Returns for Individuals and Corporations, accessing: www.hacienda.pr.gov, section from Sheets, Forms and Annexes.
Where and when to submit the Social Security return?
La Individual Form, must be filed electronically, all the information and instructions about the form, the requirements and the providers certified by the Department of the Treasury are located in the website of the Department of the Treasury of Puerto Rico. Income Tax Returns can also be give yourself personally in any of the Taxpayer Service Offices, which are favorably located in San Juan, Bayamón, Caguas, Ponce and Mayagüez or sent by traditional postal mail.
When the Return is filed electronically, through any of the providers certified by the Department of Finance, When the process is finished, the application generates a Confirmation Sheet which provides, among other information: the taxpayer's name, social security number, date and time of filing, payment date (if apply) and a unique confirmation number.
This Confirmation Sheet (along with the Form), which has the same validity (for banking, student purposes, filing of turnover declarations or personal property tax returns), that a copy of the Return (on paper) sealed by the Department of the Treasury in the presence of the Taxpayer.

Who must file the Social Security return?
Every foreign individual not resident in Puerto Rico, who has had gross income from sources in Puerto Rico for the taxable year, must file the Income Tax Forms for Individuals and Corporations, unless the tax on said income has been paid in full at source.
Every individual residing in Puerto Rico, who obtains gross income from any source or origin, is required to file a return; when said income exceeds the following amounts:
| Married and file joint return | $ 6,000 dollars |
| Single or married not living with spouse | $ 3,300 dollars |
| Married and file separately | $ 1,500 dollars |
Those individuals who are citizens of the United States and non-residents of Puerto Rico, whose income has not been subject to withholding at source, must file a Income Tax Form, if he gross income from Puerto Rico sources, exceeds the following amounts:
| Married and file joint return | $ 3,000 dollars |
| Single or married not living with spouse | $ 1,300 dollars |
| Married and file separately | $ 1,500 dollars |
And any non-resident foreign individual of Puerto Rico, who has had gross income from sources in Puerto Rico for the taxable year, unless the tax on said income has been paid in full at origin.
Do I have to fill out a form for Social Security benefits?
As a general rule, income received from federal Social Security is not taxable in Puerto Rico. So there is no obligation to file an Income Tax Return, when federal Social Security benefits; are the only source of income received during the year.
Can I obtain a document that validates insurance proceeds?
With a benefits verification letter, which is an official document detailing the benefits from Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, or Medicare coverage, can also be used when you need a proof of income or disability.
This proof may be needed when applying for a mortgage or other loan, or to apply for some type of government assistance, such as: subsidized housing or energy assistance. To request a copy, you must:
- Sign in to the account “My Social Security” An internet.
- Click on the link “Get a Benefit Verification Letter” (Get a benefit verification letter) and then in “Customize Your Letter” (Personalize your letter).
- Select the information you want to include and click “Apply to Letter” (Apply a la carte).
- It can print (PrintNow) or save the letter online (Save a Copy).
- Another way to get a benefit verification letter is by calling Social Security at: 800-772-1213 or by contacting any local Social Security office.

How do I know if my return was filed?
To verify the status of a return it can be done through: Virtual Collection or the automated Treasury system, or by calling: 787-622-0123, option 2.
Another option to know the status of an amended return is to contact the Adjustments and Payroll Administration Section, through the telephone number: 787-721-2020, extensions 2268 and/or 2269 or visit Office 208.
